Hi friends!
I’ve finally gotten my Christmas mantel together….I know, I know…Christmas is only 5 days away! In my defense, I didn’t really plan to create new mantel decor this year. It just happened.
When I pulled my Holiday decor buckets out back in November, I should have known that it just would not satisfy me to use the same decorations on the mantel this year. I put the old stuff up, but just wasn’t feelin’ it.
So, in true Megan fashion, I changed everything last minute. I really didn’t know where I was going with it all in the beginning, it all just sort-of evolved over the course of a few weeks!
First, it was the Poinsettia’s that I needed to spruce up. I buy them every year from Lowes on Black Friday. It’s cheap decoration at 99 cents a piece but I’ve never been super excited about the cheap gold plastic paper-y stuff they come in and this year, I had an idea, and designed these fancy planter boxes for them!
Then, I saw this gold deer head on Pinterest. And I HAD to have it. So I made a huge one.
I made mine on a big scrap piece of Plywood though, not canvas. I’m in LOVE with this piece…I think it’s the metallic gray stripes that I love the most.
So…I had new plant holders, and a new sparkly picture to sit on the mantel…so naturally, next came the idea to make new stockings.
Christen and I made burlap stockings together and I’m working on a tutorial post for that because we couldn’t find a simple tutorial anywhere for the type we wanted. She fancied her stockings up and mine are still just plain, though I may add to them in the future I’m very noncommittal to that right now. 😉
Sometimes less is more, right? That’s what I’m telling myself right now.
….and then I needed new stocking hangers!
I’m pretty pleased with how it all came together this year!
Now, I just wish it would have evolved sooner! I want more time to enjoy it.
I hope you have a safe and happy Christmas!
